Course: how everything works in CreateYourVPN
A free 8-lesson course: clusters, servers, routes, inbounds, load balancing, multihop, monitoring, and backups — everything you need to run your VPN with confidence.
When you connect your first server, CreateYourVPN does everything for you — and that works great as long as there's just one server. But sooner or later the questions start: "How do I add a second server?", "Why do users land on this particular server?", "What are these routes and inbounds in the panel?"
This course answers all of those questions, one by one. By the end, the panel will stop feeling like a pile of cryptic words — behind every element you'll see a simple, logical system.
Who this course is for
- You've already connected a server (or are about to) and want to understand what's happening under the hood.
- You've outgrown Single Server mode and want multiple servers, countries, and fine-grained settings.
- You're building a service for many users and want to distribute the load properly.
You can read it without owning a single server — the course requires nothing but curiosity. And if you'd rather just get your VPN running in five minutes first, start with the guide "How to set up your server" and come back.
No technical background needed. Everything is explained with simple examples, and terms are introduced one at a time. If you run into an unfamiliar word, chances are one of the upcoming lessons is dedicated to it.
What's in the course
The course is built top-down: first the big picture and the vocabulary, then each part of the system on its own, and finally reliability and keeping your data safe.
Lesson 1. Who's who: cluster, server, route, inbound
The panel's four key words and how they fit together. The foundation of the whole course.
Lesson 2. Clusters
The master (management node) and worker nodes: how servers team up into one system.
Lesson 3. Servers: setup and metrics
What happens at each stage of installation and what the numbers on a server card mean.
Lesson 4. Routes and load balancing
How users see your servers and how the system spreads the load across them.
Lesson 5. Inbounds and split tunneling
Entry points into your VPN: camouflage, torrent blocking, and rule-based traffic.
Lesson 6. Multihop
Server chains: enter in one country, exit in another.
Lesson 7. Monitoring and the mesh network
How the system keeps an eye on server health, and how servers ping-check each other.
Lesson 8. Backups
How to save your user database to your own storage and restore it when needed.
How to read it
The lessons build on each other and go from simple to advanced, so the first time through it's best to read in order — each lesson relies on the previous ones. After that, the course works well as a reference: forgot what an inbound is — just open the right lesson.
Let's start with the vocabulary — the four words the entire panel rests on.
